Sprite Birth

Needed a really quick illustration to make my arbitray quota for the day!
Sprite Birth is actually/hopefully going to be part of my previous in the works illustration 'pumpkin pumpkin'.
I was looking at the 'pumpkin pumpkin' composition after being away from it all day and found that I wanted to "push" the story telling. I thought about what direction I wanted to go and then went with the first notion that popped into my head which was a birth?

Here are my glorious and varied idea sketches for pumpkin pumpkins evolved composition/story, with some random anatomy pondering. The bottom right sketches where me trying to get the feel and imagery of something trying to pull itself out of an egg.

 Here is a larger more elaborate sketch of the little sprite and the one used for the illustration.

Pumpkin Pumpkin

Not sure what I'm making yet. Maybe a witch? Mostly just trying to get something from a starting point to a finished illustration in one day.

How did it start? I opened up Photoshop and let my hand/brain jot down the first thing that came along. I tried doing some flat colors and wasn't liking it, so I went to a value sketch instead. So right now I'm trying to work the contrast to the focal point and shuffle around the extra visual space into an interesting space.
