Visions and Tales - We All Part 1

Visions and Tales - We All Part 1

- By Valthalin -

Were heading into Zone A for a week to examine some sciencey doohickey our clients are after.

Now remember Dunken your in charge. Don't open the door for anyone unless they are from the guild. Make sure your sister does her studies. I've left you enough money for a while. In case we run long here I've granted you access to the companies funds.

Is that ok for you to do mom?

I'm the founder of this band boy I'm entitled to mooch. Now, how is Gracy handling things.

Grace is at school right now. She is trying to act mature about it, but she still cries herself to sleep since you left.

That is too cute my big girl. Make sure you to support each other. . .

Commander! The Summers Rain is requesting our clearance documents.

Thank you Travis. I'll be up in a minute.

Looks like were about to cross over into the wild boy. Wish your mama good hunting.

You'd better come back in one piece or Grace will kill you. Good hunting Commander Bethany!

Attaboy keep that strong face on.

Dunken started tearing up as the transmission ended.

Travis waiting just outside the door standing at attention.

Alright Travis lets see if we can glide through this red tape.

Mama!

Travis turned on his heel to match pace with Bethany.

The kids are getting big. It's gracy's birthday next month, you planning and 'appropriating' a souvenir?

Thas right. She'el be a might 12 year old lady.

Any normal girl would want something frilly or shopping money. Whada suppose she hinted at Travis?

Hmmm, knowing that one. Probably that one thing we picked up down in quarantine.

Bethany clicked her tongue. You nailed it on the head.

Are you going to give it to here!?

Commander on the bridge! called out the security office.

Beth and Travis parted striding to their respective posts.

Beth touched the captains control panel. lights breathed before illuminated the control scheme.

Beth swiped a communication request on the main holographic display.

A strikingly beautiful woman in Jet black uniform rendered out in the middle of the bridge.

Good day commander Bethany Roesen-Qruz. You look well.

Thank you Admiral Holwell.

The Admiral accepted a data slate from off view.

Looks like your papers are in order commander. Your formation meets requirements for the transition. The cruiser Speaker of Perdition is assigned to your area, please check in with them before your transition.

And commander, Avoid bring any party guest home this time.

Thank you Admiral. Fair winds to you.

The comms officer chimed in. Commander they've transmitted our travel route. patching it through to navigation.

Very good Preston. Jonathan! take us to the next checkpoint.

In the distance Summers Rain and her entourage loomed like a stationary storm cloud. Ready to disgorge the Admirals justice on anyone stupid enough to cause trouble

. . .

Incoming communication commander.

A grizzled old man with more combat scars than face waved onto the viewer. His current uniform a crimson red but obviously he was a black.

In a deep and growling voice. This is the War Cruiser Speaker of Perdition. Transmit your clearance and State your purpose or be fired upon. You have 20 seconds to comply.

Beth motioned to communications. We are transmitting Speaker of Perdition.

A seconds later the captain of the Speaker nodded to someone off view.

Very well, you are clear to transition. Bear in mind we will not assist you until you transition back to this side.

Thank you Speaker of Perdition, we'll be on our way.

Good hunting Motley Bucket. The Speaker terminated the transmission.

Beth snapped a look over to the Weapons officer Bordy, and Travis. Well we lived through or first encounter.

The bridge chuckled.

Alright lads, let cross over the edge of the world one more time.

Beth swiped to open a formation wide com.

All vessels raise to combat alertness and form up! logistics and guests in the middle, lance first. Flaming Thunder Hawk you take point.

A dozen war frigates and destroyers jostled into position around the squishy logistics and guest core.

Preston raising a hand, All ships signaling ready.

Alright ladies and gents buckle up and try to keep your britches on!

Jonathan give this flying buffet a nudge!

Mama!

Initiating primary oven, commencing steaks cooking complete in

10...

A mirror image simmered several meters from the lead ships as they approached the edge.

The lead ships slipped through like diving into a water surface.

5...

A chrome wall passed through the nose of the Motley bucket. Sweeping towards Bethany.

I'll never get use to this! Beth gasped as she tried to lean away from the impending wall.

. . .

Visions and Tales - Legion

Visions and Tales - Legion

- By Valthalin -

I found myself standing on a patch of white glistening stone. Around me stars and planets swirled so close I felt I could reach out and touch them.

I was confined within a great hall. Though there were no visible walls. They were lined with pillars of the same white stone. The supports soared high above fading into the heavens as if to hold the void at bay for me.

The lengths of the hall stretched into a clouded twilight in either direction.

How had a got here? I can't remember what I was doing a moment ago.

I had the faintest feeling I was looking for something, or someone? Or maybe the other way round?

I took a step forward and had the feeling I would find what I was looking for if I kept walking.

As I walked a doorway waved into existence like a mirage in the desert heat.

Am I dreaming? I felt compelled to step through.

Leaving the star filled hall I entered a small room.

There were no swirling stars in this room only the white floor immediately around me and the blackness beyond. Still I felt a slight sense of vertigo as I looked about. The space seemed to be almost imperceptible expanding.

As I walked further into the room a small tree sprouted from the floor a sapling little more than 5 meters tall. As I neared the tree I could see it was made of the same glistening white stone as the floor.

Unlike the floor it appeared to be alive. Even from a distance I could tell it was pulsating, breathing? tiny streaks of golden fire occasionally racing beneath and across it's surface.

I was shocked to realize I was no longer looking at the tree but a tall backed chair of simple grey stone maybe 20 paces from the base of the tree. Had it always been there? When had I noticed?

Staring at the chair I felt calm. The room's space suddenly felt close and cozy like a warm blanket. Memories greeted me like a summer breeze glimpses of a happy childhood played out in my mind.

A lovely sunny day in my teens, I was in the fields playing with my fathers guard dog Minion, he was getting up there in the years. But in his mind he was still a pup. Even though it was clearly an effort for him to run or hear. A good dog I thought with a smile.

Lost in the sensation of familiarity, a wrongness nipped at the edges of my mind. What was a dog?

A cold prickly sensation slowly snaked its way down my neck and coiled into my chest constricting my heart. I choked as I reeled back to now, it was Doom.

Suddenly two writhing shadows clawed their way out the tree truck. Hectically rolling to taking position on each side of the stone chair.

The shadows flowed like blood on cobble stone settling into placid bodies of impossible darkness.

An irrational fear of falling physically tugged at me. Threatening to send my toppling into an endless suffocating void.

Just like that the moment of stillness passed. The air just above the pools began dancing in a heat haze. The pools bubbled and countless ghostly hands sprang forth from each clawing upward into the air. Coalescing into a jagged doorway just as quickly as they had erupted.

I'm dreaming. Razor sharp talons of anticipation ripped across my numbed senses. Like a demon cackling in joy to the beat of my racing heart.

Somewhere within me I heard a whisper "Coming." A feeling of euphoria and terror consumed me. The overwhelming urge to vomit filled my throat muscles as I drown. Even that, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the black.

A mass of clouds rolled out from the portal. I felt more than saw within the broiling clouds. A tall massive figure. It's burning gaze was crushing. Like stars crashing in from the void. I dropped to my knees. My throat closed up. I was scarcely aware of a warm stream cascading down legs. Dumbstruck and slack jawed I slumped there.

An explosion rocked me. Magnificent arcs of vibrant color burst out from an orb just above the stone chair. Blinding light flowed out in brilliant torrents. Through it I could see without sight. A being suspended above the throne.

It was.

Awe filled me. The being looked upwards and the sky filled with visions of worlds, beings and creatures of all manner and nature. A Billion lifetimes on a Billion different worlds flickered across the sky.

As the scene played out I watched as my eyes burned and my flesh blazed and turned to ash.

One of the beings of abyssal black flowed toward me with it's garments swirling in the windless chamber.

It raised a finger to my broken body. A wispy haze of black smoke rose from my left breast.

Then it spoke without words in countless languages, voices, and tones "Legion you are found."

I threw off my covers SCREAMING.

Sweat streaming down my body. My heart racing. I frantically searched my room for a threat. But there was nothing. I waited in the dark and silence. Nothing.

My bed was soaked.

My holo aid glowed in the darkness slightly illuminating my bunk. I could hear my heart beat in my ears slowing. My panic subsided. The heart rate warning glyph in the upper left of my sight dimming.

I rubbed my throat, I'm parched. I cautiously got out of bed and headed toward the bathroom. I pulled the water cup from it's magnetic perch with a practice motion and filled it. The cool water soothing me as it went down. I placed the cup back and put my hands on the sink's edge.

With a deep breath I looked into the mirror. The night light on the wall dimly washing my body in a teal light As I stared at the mirror a flicker caught my eye.

Raw panic gripped me once again. NO!?
