Working on the foreground dude, I'm thinking he is going to be another character I've worked on instead of a random stand in. Letting different possible stories between the two ruminate right now.
This blog is about video games and the artistic development process behind them. It will focus on my work and growth as an artist in the game development pipeline. The majority of content will be more "technical Art", modeling, texturing, and maybe rigging. There should also be a good amount of traditional art, and cake

Hangouts Art Murder!
This is why Google hangouts with my friends is bad for my productivity, Or is it!?
So background to this. I was working on my Battle Grip illustration, but I saw my friend, who we shall call cuddles! Drawing this cute girl and I screen caped it from hangouts and started to just GOoooooooo. And here is where I ended up before getting back to MY work hah.
uploaded for your amusement.
if your asking yourself why mouth shoulders that sing, you should be asking why not? =P

Daily Sketches
Hey hey, was show and telling a page from my 'sketchy sketchbook' so since I scanned the image thought I'd throw it up here with some minor paraphrased commentary.
So basically I was playing with visual flow; inferred lines and lines of continuity. This being body parts/elements that follow an imaginary line. These lines lead the viewer through the image and keep the eye moving within the image (ideally).
I don't really feel these sketches are engaging, so I'm hoping to figure out how to pop some of that life into them with some more work/experimentation.
So the first page was actually a land/city scape that morphed into a few people sketches. The second page is a figure inspired by a guys hair and bird that I saw getting off the bus. and another sketch that is an I'm tired I list spirals today.
That's it hah, thanks for reading!

I worked a double shift today so not much time to work on anything today. Just a small update tonight.

Master Painting "Katarina Succubus"
This master painting is of Jeremy Vitry's Katarina Succubus for a Riot Contest. You can find his work on artstation.
I didn't get this one done, and I can't stay up until 1am today as I have work early tomorrow morning. So here is what I got done. I started at 9pm and stopped at 11pm. I did actually take process stages this time. But I'm not going to comp them together until I'm done with the copy. So here is the most recent state of the copy.
A quick note on my observations while doing this master copy. There were lots of concentric squashed ovals at an angle these are seen through lost and found, and inferred lines. For example, Katarina's daggers and the top of her hair contain an oval flow to them. I think this lends to the "life" and motion/dynamism of the work. I also noticed there were a lot of tangential horizontal and vertical lines that could be referenced between the major shapes of the different parts. You can see some of these lines being painted over in my sketch.
The numbers on the side are a note for myself, it is the size of my viewing window for the reference image.
Thanks for viewing!

Master Copy "Elf Prisoner"
Hey it's been a while! Just did a master painting of an artists work that really inspires me to draw each and every day so thought I'd post my copy and a plug for Saara Mäkinen. You can find more of her great work at deviantart, artstation, and her portfolio so give it a look, after you look at mine of course! =P
Didn't take me long, started around 10pm finished at 1am maybe I was in the groove!?
Here is some loose stage development, sorry it's kinda far in hah only dawned on me to take stages later.

Sprite Birth
Needed a really quick illustration to make my arbitray quota for the day!
Sprite Birth is actually/hopefully going to be part of my previous in the works illustration 'pumpkin pumpkin'.
I was looking at the 'pumpkin pumpkin' composition after being away from it all day and found that I wanted to "push" the story telling. I thought about what direction I wanted to go and then went with the first notion that popped into my head which was a birth?
Here are my glorious and varied idea sketches for pumpkin pumpkins evolved composition/story, with some random anatomy pondering. The bottom right sketches where me trying to get the feel and imagery of something trying to pull itself out of an egg.
Here is a larger more elaborate sketch of the little sprite and the one used for the illustration.

Pumpkin Pumpkin
Not sure what I'm making yet. Maybe a witch? Mostly just trying to get something from a starting point to a finished illustration in one day.
How did it start? I opened up Photoshop and let my hand/brain jot down the first thing that came along. I tried doing some flat colors and wasn't liking it, so I went to a value sketch instead. So right now I'm trying to work the contrast to the focal point and shuffle around the extra visual space into an interesting space.

Some pose sketches and development art for robins suit and helm. I'm very much liking the idea of her having a full flak neck collar/guard.

Robin Hunter Preproduction Introduction
So eventful month! Went home for Christmas saw the family, came back to find that the internet had been deactivated! Yay! So had to fix that.
Now on to the show. I didn't actually know where a lot of my sketches are from when I was at home so I'll just upload those as I find them in or on my bags/floor. In the mean time I'm going to try and pump out a set of concept art and hopefully a few illustrations for my project 'Robin Hunter'.
Robin Hunter is a concept art project that retells the story of little red riding hood (with creative license) in the way I envision it. Right now I'm working on the main character Rebbeca Burnhart, nickname is Robin with the call sign Little Red. She is a mercenary fighter pilot turned courier with an time sensitive mission to deliver a vital package to grandmother that could change the tide in a hot war at the teetering point! This story is full of conspiracy, danger, and betrayal! =P
My process is pretty haphazard right now as I read and reread the Grimm tale and jot down ideas. I think I've settled that the world is going to be something like a 'Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow' aesthetic. Still debating what level of technology the world will be and if I want to mix any magic in the world. I am leaning really heavily toward a sort of world war two heavy propaganda war town industrial feeling.
Robins reference images are all over the place, from hours jockeys, motorbikes, fighter pilots, Swat and army body armor, space suits, and snowboarding gear.
Her plane is currently being inspired by the American thunderbolt xp-47H and p-47 thunderbolt aircraft. As well as various 1940-60's sports cars and some modern motorcycles for curves. Trying to find a cool sleek look that doesn't get to much into higher fi visuals. But who knows I just started thinking and sketching down ideas for the project five hours ago.
Some of the photo reference I'm looking at. I'm really digging the back-end cockpit with the motor and stuff on a rise in the front. Along with the swoopy wheel wells.
That's it for now, I need to get back to drawing instead of maken this. Thanks for reading! =D

W16 - 7 - F - No F's Were Given!
12-20-14
An other comp on the flip side of my page from the 20th. Just popped into my head so I scribbled it down.
12-23-14
Today i'm working on understanding this reilly method of figure abstraction. My thought process for this distilling what is going through my head while looking at an image. How I see the spacial/proportional relations and taking a step back and asking my brain. "You're giving me the ok that yes I get the relation but HOW am I seeing this relationship?" So turns out I see things in triangles. I mean I already kind of knew I liked doing measurements that way but now I'm sort of embracing it.
So I did the large figure with the Reilly method, looking at what my source artist was doing with it and trying to break down what they are using the lines and curves to represent. Then I referenced her work and photos and drawing tutorials for about thirty minutes and really tried to make as many relations and connections as to what exactly this method is suppose to be doing for me and how these lines are relation to the figure.
My sketching notes can be found on the side of the large figure.
4:22pm just finished uploading everything I've done in the past few days. So I Need a lunch break now.
Space filler while cooking=P

First image at top left is a very quick sketch from an anatomy book. The rest are sketches based on the Sketch daily 'Nemo' post. Idea search for a kind of underwater assault/swat buble helm scuba suit. With a clown fish as a primary design consideration.

W23 - 7 - FM - No F's Were Given!
Breakdowns:
12-15-14
1 (Imagined): Action pose, figure with a sword/spire?
2 (Imagined): from my head, inspired by a standard while watching conan the barbarian. I stick figure dude in a "victory pose".
12-16-14
1 (Imagined): An attempt at sexy shoulders.
2 (Reference): Sort of a Meh sketch just getting my pencil moving.
3 (Imagined): Did a swirl that lead to a quick face. I actually was going for a 'realistic' shaded I but I messed it up and turned it into a simple 'P'. Kinda reminds me of Jessica rabbit.
4 (Reference): Feel good "volume" /gesture sketch. Keeping it as simple as possible.
5 (Reference): another gesture sketch. Going for smooth clean and confident lines.
